New Government Requirements for Disposing of Background Screening Reports On June 1, 2005, the Federal Trade Commission imposed a new rule requiring all businesses, organizations and individual consumers who maintain or possess consumer report information to properly dispose of the reports. The report you receive on the home job applicant you are screening is included in the information covered by this new rule.
The rule does not require you to dispose of the report you have ordered from us. However, it does apply if you choose to dispose of the information. While the rule does not specify how you are to dispose of the information, the most common way is to shred or burn paper reports.
